Interview with Hayley Plummer

Hi, I'm Hayley Plummer - and I’m an Online Nutrition and Weight Loss Coach. I work with busy women to help them improve their health and fitness, and build a healthy, happy relationship with both food and themselves. I'm based in South East England, UK, where I also love to ride my bike, walk in the countryside, and take photos of local wildlife.

15 years ago I qualified as a personal trainer, and since then have worked with thousands of women. I'm also a qualified Nutritionist via Mac Nutrition Uni, have my own podcast (Think Healthy With Hayley), and am constantly studying around nutrition, fitness, self development and mindset - all of which I combine to support and guide my online coaching clients.

What’s something you’ve been pretty consistent at doing that has led to a favorable outcome for you?

Learning daily, via books, audiobooks, YouTube and especially podcasts. There is always so much to fit into the day, and so much to learn! I've found podcasts especially helpful for gaining new perspectives and insights around weight loss and mindset, which in turn has made me a better coach for my clients.

It's also inspired me to create my own podcast, which now has over 155 episodes. Podcasts are brilliant in that a) they're free, and b) you can put them on while doing something else, like walking, driving, tidying the house, prepping dinner, etc. So you can get things done and learn at the same time.

Which habits or goals are you currently working to make progress on daily?

I'm working on being productive and getting a lot done each day, while also taking time to rest! Rest is so undervalued, and is something many of my clients struggle to get enough of, so I want to find ways to help them through my own experiences too. I love my job and could work / study all day, but I also love to cycle, lift weights, do hobbies, see friends and family etc. And just be able to sit with a book and relax.

As so many of us find, it's hard to fit everything in that we want to do. I am easily distracted and can procrastinate on important tasks that I don't enjoy doing, which can then lead to overwhelm, stress, and never taking time to rest.

So I'm working on improving my habits around planning, focused work, and deliberate downtime. Planning the week, and then planning each day specifically to make sure important tasks get done, is helping, along with avoiding social media for big chunks of the day.

How do you deal with times when you struggle or get stuck?

I have my own coach, who I speak to once a month. I find it so valuable to have those calls, and to fill in the check in form before we speak. It gives me a chance to really reflect on how things are going, and what I need to do to keep improving.

A lot of my struggles have been around trying to fit in everything I want to do in business and life, without getting overwhelmed. My coach helps me break things down - recognising what I'm doing well (which is easy to forget/ignore, and always makes things feel better), and making doable plans for the month ahead. It's great to have someone to support and guide you, and challenge your perspective when you need it.

Any methods, tools or tips you recommend for your habits, goals or productivity?

Planning the day and the week. I have an 'Inspire Now' journal (bought on amazon) which really helps with this, and also use Google calendar to schedule work calls, key work tasks, social time, and the exercise I want to do across the week.

A favorite quote?

"CHALLENGE. There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is clarity of purpose. That is the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to achieve it."

I love quotes! There are many that have inspired me, but one sits on my desk, framed as part of a motivational poster.

Something that made you smile recently? 😁

My cat makes me smile every day. I've also had some clients doing really well recently - building better habits, seeing progress, feeling proud of themselves, and once recent client who's fallen in love with strength training having never tried it before. That always brings a huge smile to my face.
